The Nippers program is now an important part of Surf Life Saving throughout Australia and represents our future surf lifesavers. The key aim is to teach children surf safety and surf sports skills. The Nippers program works with children from 7 years of age through to 13 years. The emphasis for these age groups is to introduce surf awareness, to learn surf skills, to gain confidence in these skills and to have fun in the beach environment. At Broome Surf Life Saving Club our aim is to provide the best possible Surf Life Saving and Surf Sports experience for all junior surf lifesavers, preparing them for their eventual transition to cadets then adult life in our great Surf Club. Nippers can be a rewarding experience for the whole family. Not only do kids learn important beach and water skills and enjoy friendships that come with belonging to the Club but their parents can also gain valuable knowledge and discover personal satisfaction by participating. Nippers meet at the Broome Club each Sunday morning from May through until October. The children are split into age groups and cycle through a variety of activities which include:
Children and parents are encouraged to be on time so that nippers can start and, more importantly, finish on time. All Nippers must come prepared with:
Nipper membership of our club is divided into Age Groups and children must participate in their correct age group category as determined by their age at midnight, 30th September. Children under the age of 7 are not permitted to take part in organised nipper activities.

Parents Parental involvement is important at any Club and ours is no different. It is a National requirement that we have one Water Safety person for every five juniors in the water and only proficient members (those who have a current SRC or Bronze) are allowed into the water for insurance reasons. It is therefore VERY IMPORTANT that we have parents obtain their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) to then be able to provide water safety for Nipper activities.
Parents are encouraged to join in the various activities both in the water and on the beach, this is very important particularly for the Nippers to help and support them with the new experiences they will be involved in.
